Welcome to the Healthy Food Prescription Program!

What is this program?

Live Well Geary County Healthy Food Prescription partnered with local physicians to prescribe fresh produce to patients with diet-related health risks or conditions.

85 percent of U.S. healthcare spending currently goes to chronic and preventable health conditions, according to the National Institute of Health. Eating more fruits and vegetables intervenes with these diet-related diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.

How does it work?

A person meets with a doctor or practitioner who ask a series of targeted questions, receives a prescription and a voucher for produce, and then redeems the voucher at a participating location or farmers’ market. Food provided can be fresh produce, canned food, or frozen food, depending on what the sites have to offer at the time.

Live Well Geary County offers up to $50 in Farmers' Market food coupons to encourage increased fruit and vegetable intake. By completing the form, the participants agrees to a follow-up call to get the second set of $25 coupons and provide input on our local program.
